Week 4: Professor Mark Juergensmeyer, Global Studies (post 3)

Mark Juergensymeyer is a professor of sociology and global studies at university of santa barbara. He has an interest in terrorism and violance around the world. He studies relioions and politics around the world, dealing with every situation and wars that have happened throughout time. He first studied in India, and then brought his studeis to all over the world like the middle east, united states, south asia, and east asia. He would like there to be peace all around the world and not hatred and wars breaking out, but he did say that at first one must understand why violence occurs in our world. It is very good to be deeply concerned about the world around us and why things happen they ways that they do. Of course everyone would love to have a peaceful world with no hate and wars occurring all over, but there is always an underlining notion of why it does happen and has happened since the beginning of time itself.

Who knows if one day people all over will learn to just get along and leave our hatred at the door, but I honestly don't think that it will ever happen because of politics, religions, races, and cultures that divide us all from each other, and with all those comes differences and people wont agree with something that isn't natural to them. Even with the terrorist attacks that occurred on 9/11 those people that were behind the planed attacks had different reasons individually for doing what they did. I still don't understand why they thought that it was ok to kill themselves along with so many other people that day. It was a sad day and one that will never be forgotten, yet it may not be the last and that is so sad to think that people will actually do things like this and think that they will be rewarded in heaven for their killings.
