Week 2: A Field Guide to Critical Thinking (post 2)

This is an interesting article because it relates to the paranormal and critical thinking and logical thinking. It starts by talking about the reasons why paranormal research is so popular and one of the reasons is, "the irrationality of the American world-view, which supports such unsupportable claims as life after death and the efficacy of the polygraph" It talks about how this claim fog life after death or paranormal activity to even exist among us to be nonsense. She wants her students to understand that we have an opinion and we need to stick to our beliefs and no one should force us to feel or think so differently from what we are already set in stone with.

She talks about a remedy set of rules that she calls, ”FiLCHeRS” they stand for the rules of Falsifiability, Logic, Comprehensiveness, Honesty, Replicability, and Sufficiency. She stays that if we apply these 6 rules to the evidence offered for any claim and she states that "no one will ever steal your belief. You'll be filch-proof" I believe that in any case when dealing with a topic like paranormal research anyone should be able to sort out their ideas and beliefs at the moments that they are involved in such matters. Her rules can help some understand how to question any claims in their life's and they will be able to fortify any false/fact beliefs and be able to speak up for themselves and not just go with the flow of what everyone else believes to be true. She belives that we must look past the claim and see it for what it really is and we can argue against it if we feel the need to prove otherwise and not be taken advantage of.
