Week 3: Edward O. Wilson and Consilience (post 4)

Edward O. Wilson talks about Darwin's theory of evolution and how we now at this point and time and time can gather up information dealing with genetics, because our science is so advanced than it was 30 years ago when Wilson came up with this idea in a book, Sociobiology. People are now able to make more sense of what his writings were all about and science is making it easier to understand Darwin's theory.

He also talks about free will, this is an interesting topic to me. Wilson talks about his take on free will saying, that we all have free will and have abilities to make personal decisions and choices independently. We do however, have some things that are predetermined in life. For example, if someone makes a choice to become a psychologist then it is predetermined that he/she will have to go to school to obtain a degree in that field of study. However, they at first have the free will to decide on their own that the field of psychology is best for them independently. Some governments give there people limited free will. For example, did an African that became a slave have free will, obviously he/she didn't want to become a slave but they were over ruled/controlled physically to be forced to become a slave. Some people who were slaves did have an option to try and run away, that is free will, but they most likely had to pay the consequences if caught.

Some people believe that free will is not real, because God has already predetermined and mapped out our life's. I however, believe that we aren't puppets and have free will in life. People need to learn from there own mistakes in life, therefore, we make our own choices. I don't believe that our life has a predetermined outcome by God, and do believe that he guides us down our paths that we choose to take. God gave us the freedom of choice.
