Week 5: Author and Scholar, Sam Harris (post 3)

Sam Harris was a great speaker at this convention, and he had a lot of interesting thoughts and opinions about the problems of religious beliefs.Harris said that many religions practice love but are preaching exclusion. This statement is true, because I believe that some religions like extreme Muslims are preaching that they love there God and when they die for there beliefs that they will be rewarded with many virgins. I don't understand how one could preach about how much they love God, then say that God promises them with virgin women. It doesn't make sense, and i can't connect the dots here with this religion of these extremists.

Sam Harris stated that he was worried, and there is no reason to survive religious differences. Harris even stated that 22% of the American population is certain that Jesus is going to come out of the clouds and save the day within the next 50 years. Another 22% believes the opposite and feels that Jesus"probably" will come down and save the day within the next 50 years. I personally feel and believe that people can believe whatever they want to believe in, and it isn't any of my business what they think about God. Many people can get very arrogant about there religious beliefs and "exclude" out any others that don't agree with there religious beliefs, I think that is unnecessary and selfish. I'm Catholic and if a Mormon per say doesn't agree with my beliefs, then so what, and why should they tell me otherwise to believe in there religion if I'm set in my ways. It is not love when someone excludes someone else from there group, because that is being close minded. I think that this is the main problem that Harris is worried about.
