Week 4: Professor Steven Pinker, M.I.T. and Harvard University (post 3)

This interview expert lecture with Professor Steven Pinker was interesting because he even goes onto depth in his brief definition and summary of what evolutionary psychology is, and he states that it is, "bringing to bare or the study of the mind." Based on this quotation/definition Pinker is saying that evolutionary psychology is universal in human nature, and it deals a lot with the brain and the combining of psychology with the study of the brain.

Pinker's concentration is in cognitive psychology which deals with the brain, thinking, speaking, and reasoning. He even stated that the message in evolutionary psychology is that, "Human behavior varies all over the map." This is true, because everyone grows up in different environments and settings, not everyone all over the map grew up in the same environment so things are different even normal behaviors to someone in the US will be seen as culturally different to someone who grew up in South America.

Another interesting aspect that was said by Pinker was on the meaning of what dreams really are, and he said, "for all we know our dreams could be a screen saver." I thought that that statement/belief was really funny because I have never thought of what dreams are in that way. If dreams really were screen savers than we are wasting our time trying to dig deep and find there meanings.
